PROPOSED CHANGES TO OUR CONSTITUTION

31 JANUARY 2024: The Trustees are proposing making important changes to the constitution of the hall, to enable:

  • Broader powers to distribute the income of the hall, principally from the Coffee Shop, to the local community;
  • Reduction of personal liability of Trustees;
  • Bringing the rules under which the hall operates up to date with current legislation;
  • Making it more straightforward for the hall to contract for goods and services.

The Annual General Meeting is your opportunity to listen to what they have to say, share your opinions, and vote on the proposals. The Annual General Meeting of Threlkeld Village Hall Trust will take place on Wednesday 31 January at 7pm in the hall. More info and documents here.

VILLLAGE HALL EXTENSION NEWS

14 AUGUST 2023: BUILDING WORK DELAY.

Due to various technical issues, the building work has been delayed and so the car park has been partly, temporarily, re-opened unitl 4th September, when it is hoped that building work will re-commence.

17 JUNE 2023: BIGGER and BETTER-THANKS TO OUR CUSTOMERS!

Threlkeld Village Hall and Coffee Shop are getting bigger and better in 2023.

The Hall last underwent a major refurbishment in 2010–2014. Since then both the Hall and Coffee Shop have been very successful, but this has put pressure on both facilities.

In 2021, despite concerns from many residents, Eden District Council closed the public toilets to the rear of the Hall to save money. The Village Hall made their toilets available to the public and subsequently purchased the building from Eden.

The Trustees of the Hall have decided that the best use of the former toilets is to convert them into extra working space for the Coffee Shop and storage for Hall users’ equipment.

Building works are scheduled to last for around 18 weeks, starting 19th June. The Hall and Coffee Shop will remain open throughout.  The car park will be closed for the duration of the work, although pedestrian and cycle access will be available most of the time. There may be occasions when the only access will be via the front doors.

The works involve substantial costs, which are partly being funded by operating reserves from the Hall and partly by profits from the Coffee Shop.

The Coffee Shop is a Community Interest Company, with profits providing funding for the maintenance of the Hall and support of the community. It is thanks to Coffee Shop customers that we can continue investing in this vibrant, village-owned community building.
