Illustrated Talk: Running and Recovering from the Wainwrights

September 12 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
The talk will start with going through Steve’s run around the Wainwrights including his preparation and mile-by-mile experience of the extraordinary and sometimes hellish demands he made of his mind and body. Steve will then talk about the chronic fatigue brought on from completing the Wainwrights. Starts 7:30pm. Tickets £2 on the door. Box Office, Bar and Pop-up cake stall from 7pm..

In 2014 Steve Birkinshaw became the first person to complete a continuous circuit of all 214 Wainwright fells in less than 7 days. To break the record he completed two marathons and over 5,000 metres of ascent every day over the toughest Lake District terrain. The talk will start with going through Steve’s run around the Wainwrights including his preparation and mile-by-mile experience of the extraordinary and sometimes hellish demands he made of his mind and body. Steve will then talk about the chronic fatigue brought on from completing the Wainwrights and his recovery from this back to winning races.  Steve will also talk about his love of the fells and doing the Wainwrights a lot more slowly with his family.

Hannah Birkinshaw (Steve’s daughter) is raising funds to take part in an expedition to Ecuador and the Galapagos organised by Keswick School with Camps International. The group will spend 4 weeks away in summer 2024 taking part in two volunteer projects, one conservation orientated and the other community based. As part of her fundraising efforts, she will be running a pop-up tea, coffee and cake stall before the talk.

Starts 7:30pm. Box Office, Bar and Pop-up cake stall from 7pm. Pay on the door (£2).
