Jennie Lee’s role in the foundation of the Open University and the expansion of the Arts Council aided Jennie’s fight for bread and roses, and in doing so, changed the twentieth century. Oh yes, and founder of the NHS Nye Bevan was her husband. But Jennie is no footnote in someone else’s past.
This musical drama is performed by the multi-award winning Mikron Theatre Company in their 52nd year of touring exceptional theatre in extraordinary places. They visit over 130 venues per year. In the summer they tour by narrowboat performing outdoors by the canal, in pubs, allotments, dry docks to name a few. In spring and autumn, they tour indoors in village halls, theatres, care homes and more.
Press reviews have described Jennie Lee as: “Up there with one of the best shows that Mikron has done” and “The standing ovation at the end proved that Jennie Lee is a brilliant, important piece of theatre” On:Yorkshire and “The audience are moved to laughter and sadness almost in a single breath” Yorkshire Times.
