‘Keswick Lads’ – Exhibition of Portraits by David Robinson

November 1 @ 7:00 pm - November 11 @ 8:00 pm
David Robinson started the ‘Keswick Lads’ project a few years ago when he was engaged in a family history project. He came across a website, ‘Keswick at War’ which contained the names, biographical information, and some photographs of men from Keswick and the surrounding areas, who died in the First World War. He decided to combine his interests in art and social history and make some portraits using the photographs on the website. Threlkeld Village Hall has agreed to display some of the portraits to coincide with Armistice Day in November. FREE Entry.

David grew up in Keswick and lots of the family names he came across were familiar to him, Hodgson, Barnes, Postlethwaite, Stuart, Bell and many others. Most of the streets and places where the families lived are well known to him, which has meant that the project is tinged with a degree of sadness and reflection. The exhibition comprises over twenty portraits each with biographical information.

One of the aims of the project is to contribute to the social and collective memory of lives that were lost and ensure that they are not forgotten. The ‘Keswick Lads’ project is ongoing and will continue into the foreseeable future. Any information, such as photographs or biographical details would be gratefully received. David can be contacted at: davidrobinson1053@gmail.com.

The exhibition will run from 1st to 11th November, 2024, at Threlkeld Village Hall. The opening night on 1st November starts at 7pm (bar from 6:45pm). From 2nd – 11th November it is open 9am to 8pm, unless the hall is in use. FREE Entry. Please contact David before visiting on  07948 189034.
